Following Jesus

No symphony is complete until it has been played, for that was the purpose of its composition. In a similar way, Jesus’ followers are called to perform the message they proclaim because performance is a vital part of its proclamation. And just as symphony musicians follow the lead of their conductor, the church follows the lead of Jesus, embodying the gospel in how it thinks and acts and lives.

When that happens—when a church trusts Jesus and does what he says—everything changes. For the gospel is not about blind obedience to random rules but about who Jesus is and what he’s done. It ties up the loose ends, puts what remains into order, and renews the lives of all who follow him.
